Thing Explainer: Complicated Stuff in Simple Words

.

Review : A short read (62 pages) that you could finish in one sitting. The author dumb everything down to a point that is way too simplified, even makes it confusing and marginally annoying, for example, “Red World Space Car”, he could’ve used “Mars Rover”.

But then he says in the intro that he’s bound by using only a thousand common words. Do expect wordiness and redundancy, a lot of them. In a way, it makes you appreciate concise writing like “Long spinning clouds reach down from storms” can be replaced by the word “tornado”.

Overall, It was a fun read, the illustrations are amazing and I scratched the surface of these things …
• Washing machine & dryer
• Car engine
• Helicopter
• US Constitution
• Microwave
• Weather Map
• Nuclear bomb
• Saturn V Rocket
• Jet engine
• Cockpit
• Oil rig
• Camera
• Geologic periods of Earth
